At the heart of the painting, a white and golden light breaks through the mist and spreads across the water, like the first morning of the world. Drifts of rust and ochre move through a soft blue sky, while dark shores of green and midnight blue frame the reflection on either side. Nouvel Éden (“New Eden”) evokes a landscape reborn: a place from before or after, at peace, where everything still seems possible.
