A series of contemporary abstract landscapes with refined, almost zen compositions, in the spirit of Atmospheric Art.
Custom paintings, made for you. Commissions open.
François Haguier extends the legacy of the great nineteenth-century Romantics, from J.M.W. Turner to Caspar David Friedrich: vast misty spaces, pared-back colours dominated by his signature Payne’s grey, and cracks and fissures that enrich the surface. Painted on wood panels in square or panoramic formats, these original works create a contemplative atmosphere, ideal for bringing light and silence into a space.
Each painting begins with studies and digital compositions before taking shape under the brush. Drawing on more than thirty years of practice, the artist layers acrylic, water-mixable oil for the finishing touches and ink glazes, building up the surface until it reaches a soft, atmospheric blur close to sfumato.
This technique, associated with the Renaissance and Leonardo da Vinci, softens contours and transitions between forms. It gives these landscapes their depth and mystery through subtle gradations between shadow and light. An ongoing pictorial exploration in 2026.
