Series: Abstract Landscape
Over more than fifteen years of painting, my work has evolved through distinct yet connected series, from the energy of lyrical abstraction and the vertical rhythm of urban skylines to the atmospheric abstract landscapes of today. Each series explores the same quest: capturing light, memory and emotion beyond the visible.

2022–2026
Haguier's current body of work explores the landscape as an atmospheric and interior space.
Inspired in part by the emotional power of nineteenth-century Romanticism and artists such as J.M.W. Turner and Caspar David Friedrich, these paintings transform landscape into an experience of light, mist, silence, and memory. Mountains, water, horizons, forests and distant forms emerge and disappear through layers of atmosphere and matter.

2010–2022
The Lyric Abstraction series explores gesture, movement, colour and the physical act of painting.
Influenced by the pioneers of European lyrical abstraction and by the expressive freedom of artists such as Georges Mathieu, Haguier developed large-scale compositions in which lines, forms and vibrant colours interact with spontaneity and intensity. Here, painting becomes an energetic and instinctive act-less concerned with representation than with movement, rhythm and emotion.

2013–2022
Before turning more deeply toward atmospheric landscapes, François Haguier developed a body of work inspired by the architecture and energy of contemporary cities. The Skyline series transforms urban structures into fragmented and dynamic compositions. Buildings, bridges, railway lines and architectural forms overlap and collide, creating imaginary cities where different places and eras seem to coexist. These paintings explore the tension between structure and movement, urban reality and abstraction.

2010–2026
Alongside his principal bodies of work, François Haguier has continually developed studies and experimental works exploring different approaches to abstraction, figuration, landscape and visual expression. These works reflect the exploratory nature of his practice: experiments, visual research, personal studies and occasional works developed in response to specific ideas or commissions. They offer a glimpse into the broader process behind his paintings and the continual evolution of his artistic language.

François Haguier is a French-Canadian contemporary artist recognized for his atmospheric abstract landscapes—paintings that exist between reality and imagination, where landscape is transformed into an emotional and contemplative experience.
Rather than depicting identifiable places, Haguier explores the invisible relationship between memory, light, silence, and perception. His paintings dissolve geographical references into luminous atmospheres, inviting viewers to experience landscape as an inner territory rather than a physical destination.
Working at the intersection of abstraction and landscape painting, he has developed a distinctive visual language in which subtle layers, diffused light, and restrained color create immersive spaces that encourage reflection. Every composition remains intentionally open, allowing each viewer to construct a personal narrative from the work itself.
Today, François Haguier’s paintings are collected for their quiet presence, timeless aesthetic, and ability to create lasting emotional resonance within contemporary interiors and private collections.
